Climate Action Now
The climate crisis is a daily reality in CA-34. From polluted air and toxic runoff to the urban heat island effect, working-class and immigrant communities across our district are disproportionately impacted by environmental harm — the result of decades of environmental racism, underinvestment, and corporate influence on policy. Boyle Heights alone carries a pollution burden about 63% above the county average.
A Green New Deal That Centers Our Communities
Massive federal investment in renewable energy infrastructure — solar, wind, battery storage — for homes, schools, and public buildings
Unionized, family-sustaining green jobs prioritizing communities hit hardest by industrial pollution, displacement, and job loss
Job training and workforce development in clean energy, construction, public transit, and environmental restoration
Urban Greening for Health and Resilience
Funding for community parks, urban forests, and green corridors to reduce extreme heat and improve air quality
Investment in rooftop gardens, green schoolyards, and permeable infrastructure to reduce flooding and boost cooling
Prioritizing investment in census tracts with high asthma rates, low tree canopy, and extreme heat exposure
Investing in Community-Led Climate Solutions
Native plant installations promoting local biodiversity and traditional ecological knowledge
Medicinal workshops and educational programs rooted in ancestral practices
Urban agriculture and food sovereignty projects: community gardens, co-ops, composting hubs
Declare a climate emergency and hold Big Oil accountable
This summer's Lineage warehouse fire in Boyle Heights, which sent smoke and ammonia into the neighborhood, is a direct example of what happens when hazardous operations are sited near working-class communities of color
Support a national climate emergency declaration in Congress, in line with the National Climate Emergency Act (Ocasio-Cortez/Blumenauer/Sanders)
A polluters-pay climate superfund, following New York's and Vermont's models
A windfall profits tax on oil and gas companies
End federal fossil fuel subsidies
Stronger federal siting and health-review requirements for hazardous facilities near residential communities
Codify Justice40 into law
Extend clean energy savings, like community solar, to renters following Illinois' CEJA model
